I was able to successfully install MySQL 5.0 via VBScript on Windows, all silently
and configure it and login.

I thought I'd try my hand at v6.0, however I'm not having any success. I can install by hand, but not via a script.

Now everything gets installed except for the service. I even got the "Service Started Successfully" message from Windows (not from my .bat echo)...

echo off
echo Starting Install...

set mysql_msi= "C:\Program Files\Jay\ZZDownloads\mysql-essential-6.0.7-alpha-win32.msi"
set mysql_svname=MySQL6
set mysql_odbc="C:\Program Files\Jay\ZZDownloads\mysql-connector-odbc-5.1.5-win32.msi"
set mysql_gui="C:\Program Files\Jay\ZZDownloads\mysql-gui-tools-5.0-r12-win32.msi"
set mysql_datadir="C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MySQL\MySQL Server 6.0\data"

rem echo %mysql_msi%
rem echo %mysql_svname%
rem echo %mysql_odbc%
rem echo %mysql_gui%

msiexec /i %mysql_msi% /qn INSTALLDIR="C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 6.0\" /L* C:\MSI-MySQL-Log.txt
echo MySQL version 6 installed...
"C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 6.0\bin\mysqld.exe" --install %mysql_svname% --datadir=%mysql_datadir% --defaults-file="C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 6.0\my-small.ini"
net start %mysql_svname%
Version 6 has changed from v5 in that the "datadir" is now in the "Documents & Settings" folder.

However whenever I try to use mysqld.exe from the command line I get the following:

C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 6.0\bin>mysqld --install MySQL6 --datadir="C:\Documents and
Settings\All Users\Application Data\MySQL\MySQL Server 6.0\data" --defaults-file="C:\Program Fil
es\MySQL\MySQL Server 6.0\my-small.ini"

C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 6.0\bin>net start MySQL6
The service name is invalid.

More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2185.

C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 6.0\bin>mysqld --verbose --help > "c:\program files\jay\mysq
ld-help.txt"

081211 15:23:27 [ERROR] Can't open the mysql.plugin table. Please run mysql_upgrade to create it
.

C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 6.0\bin>
It looks like MYSQLD.exe is ignoring my --datadir= and when I do a verbose/help I see that it didn't like my choice.

console                           FALSE
datadir                           .
datetime_format                   %Y-%m-%d %H:%i:%s
I can post the entire VARIABLES if you wish, I saved them.
